Man, I hope the delay in the 8GB Clix 2 release has all been a plan by Iriver to throw the Clix 2 into competition with other DAPs within the coming months. And to top it off with a $200 price point for the 8GB.

I dont like Touch screens, they are hard to use and put fingerprints all over your screen. They are NOT the be all and end all of interface design, infact they are, in my opinion, horrible to use.
However Touch screens have a 'cool' factor which the public love. They will use it and tell you how great it is, they'll struggling with the functionality, smiling as they do so. This is how Apple does business, market your product well and no matter how average it maybe, as long as it has some flashy gimic or 'cool' design people will buy it. Even if there are much better products on the market.
You may get the idea that I'm not a fan of Apple, to be honest I dont rate their products much, including OSX. Thats not to say I think iPods are really bad, I just get irritated when people tell me how much better Apple products are over other companies, when really the main difference is all on the surface. They are great at creating image.

I think its gay theve made almost zero headway on the iriver . the new ipods were just anounced and there coming out with them this month. iriver was annouced when like last year. (exageration). and whats with the price the redline should not be $250, considering you can get an 8g nano for $200, and an 80g ipod classic for $250. the only downside to ipod is gettin jipped with itunes, and maybe the lack of radio and interchangable interface. other than that ipods got iriver beat hands down. the only thing keeping from getting one is cuz i like AMOLED, and i dont want to be an ipod statistic. But iriver should get there but in gear pretty quick.

I know this isn't exactly the ipod touch, but does anyone else think that the new ipod nano looks incredibly ugly compared to the previous one?

Is it true that the touch has bluetooth?
Ichika, Apple reverted back to the aluminum backing so that is why it looks ugly. Also, the colors do not help it.

markhaldane touch screen on such a small screen!? yeh good luck with that...

actually, the Cowon D2 uses a touch screen interface and its implemented quite well, the only thing is, it would probably feel a little more .... "gimmicky" after a while

ok, first things first, the new ipods have been in development for a while, but apple just didnt decide to tell the public until they were ready for release. Also, apple is a large worldwide company that it is much easier to distribute things faster, but iRiver is a relatively tiny business based in Korea, so a worldwide release wouldn't really be that feasable for them. If all you are looking for is price, not really features or easy compatability with your music library, maybe ipods are for you, or maybe youre just the kind of person who does like the ipods, plenty of people do. Maybe you like the touchscreen design, I personally dont but thats just my opinion. But, all you have compared the ipod to the clix that the ipod wins in is price, features, and immediate availability. I would personally stick with the clix2, its a great player and completely beats the ipod in features, sound quality, music formats, video quality, UI, etc. But, I do understand your frustration with iRiver, at least a set release date would be nice
and i just dont like the idea of an iphone that is a few millimeters thicker, the design bothers me.

It's not just the backing, it looks like the nano was squashed vertically and went on an eating spree, and so it just looks really fat and squarish.

I totally agree Ichika...I was actually surprised by the look of the new nano, Apple usually gets the aesthetic design right, but it looks like an oversized cracker.

hahaha, over sized cracker, good one. As for bluetooth, get the iphone if you want that functionality, ipod touch does not have it. The nano, now plays video on a small 2" LCD display, vs 2.2" amoled screen on clix. Design looks.... like jobs got drunk when designing it. Still, it's $50 cheaper, so, hate to say it but, it's getting tougher to decide between clix and ipod. Besides, the aluminum material gets smashed VERY easily, clix DOES feel strong, and it IS strong.

I've gotta disagree with the durability issue; there's no doubt that the 2nd gen ipod Nano is more durable than the Clix...sorry, but that's the truth. If you think aluminum is going to break before the plastic of the Clix's D-click, you're wrong.
With that said, I still stand by Clix as the better DAP, for a number of reasons that have already been stated. Unfortunately, durability is not one of them.

ha ha ha - That's a good one!
You can say many positive things about clix 2 BUT it does feel fragile and it is fragile!
My Motorola KRZR feels like a tank compared to the clix 2.

ok, so it mighty feel fragile but it is strong, stronger than most people think. And aluminum, DOES smash very easily, dropping it a couple of inches of the ground will smash it.
