Hi,
I have a few questions. First, does the Clix screen stay on when a charging cable is plugged in without any data connection? If not, does the Clix stay on, so that you simply press a button and the screen comes back on? If the Clix is locked, does pressing one of the d-pad buttons turn the screen back on?
THanks

If my clix 2 is connected to a USB charger rather than the PC, the display works the same as if it is on battery power (goes off after the set time and comes back on with a button press). And it will play music even if set to power and data. The D-pad buttons don't do anything when the hold is on (but the volume buttons do). Does that answer all your questions?

I have been re-ripping my favourite CDs to Ogg Vorbis with MM, and in that case it does all the file naming and tagging automatically, so I haven't needed to spend the time finding out how to do more complicated things with tags.
I'll give it another try sometime, and if I have a eureka moment I'll update the post.

Thanks for giving me the idea. I had just decided to re-rip my music into Media Monkey so I could already have the album art etc. Maybe I'll re-rip to OGG Vorbis instead. I am also doing this because when I had MM search my computer for music I checked in the advanced section something about checking for Duplicate Songs. It said it was slower. I did this and still ended up with tons of duplicate songs?? So I thought I'd rerip all my music into MM and start fresh.

I don't want to put you off using Ogg Vorbis, because I like it very much, but there are a couple of gotchas to be aware of. Firstly, album art is problematical. I believe that it is rather difficult (but not impossible) to do. I don't care about artwork, so I just go without, but you may feel differently.
Secondly, there is more noise on iriver's decoder for Vorbis than on MP3. I am not happy about it, but after hours of listening tests I decided that Vorbis still sounds better than MP3 at 190kbps, so I went with it anyway.
MediaMonkey is slower to rip and encode than the fastest standalone Vorbis encoder, but because it integrates library management and synchronisation, what you lose on the swings you more than make up for on the roundabouts. (And it is way faster than ip3..)
I've not tried removing duplicate files, so I don't know why it wouldn't work. I have only found one small issue with MM so far, and that is its default reliance on freedb for tagging CD rips. Freedb is just not reliable enough. I understand that is possible to use a different database, but I don't know how to do that yet. (There's an MM forum which looks rather useful.)

Yes thank you very much. One last question, if the Clix is locked and the screen is off, is there a way to turn on the screen without unlocking to check what's playing or what time it is?

You can press any of the volume buttons once to reactivate the screen (but won't change the volume).

Hi,
I can't figure out where to find the rock setting on the clix2...I only find under "sound" the Custom EQ, SRS WOW HD, and Fade-In. Could someone help me?
Thank you,

Rox, read the manual on the mini CD carefully. It has been mentioned a few times in it.

Hey this is a great thread! Not only did I learn you can bring the screen back on with the volume button (when hold is locked) but I just discovered that I can actually adjust the volume even with the hold on... cool, that makes life a lot easier since those are the two things that had me turning the hold on and off all the time!

Hey guys,
I got my Clix2 yesterday and I have a couple of questions. I searched the forum for a while but couldn't find any exact answers so I'm asking here if that is OK.
1. I bought it used so I'm not sure if mine is faulty, or it's just the way it's designed, but is the top "layer" and buttons meant to be quite flimsy/fragile? It also rattles a little - is this just poor designing on iriver's part or is mine faulty? It'd be a shame if it was a poor design because I've had a few iriver players and the build quality has been excellent on them. This Clix2 (8GB) feels really cheap.
2. Is it normal that I have to rebuild the library every time I add music to the player? I'm using Windows Explorer to add music - no software.
Thanks

Hi,
1. I think a bit of wobble and flexibility is normal, just part of the design. I don't think its actually flimsy though, believe me I've dropped mine on concrete several times and it still works like a charm so its pretty rugged.
2. I guess you're using it in UMS mode? I use MTP with Media Monkey and it doesn't have to rebuild the whole thing everytime, it seems to only update what I've actually changed... a nice bennie of MTP if you ask me

Cheers all, wonderful forum, just joined and been reading through for last 2 hours.
