Are you using YouTube Downloader 'as is' or are you using a later version of ffmpeg? Make sure you are using the appropriate conversion string as listed in my post above...?

Give us your parameter string and we can take a look.

BongMong,

I'm really new to this stuff and know nothing about video, so thank you for your patience.

I downloaded the software using the link in your post. I honestly didn't know how to replace the ffmpeg.exe file in the YouTube Downloader install directory, so just I pasted the URL for a youtube video (below) into the "Select video file" window, selected "Manual conversion" from the "convert to" pulldown, hit OK, the Manual conversion window popped up and I pasted in the parameter string you provided (below). Then another window (black, empty DOS-like window) pops up for a fraction of a second, disappears, and that's it. I tried a different youtube video URL but got the same result.

YouTube - Frank Black - Headache

ffmpeg -i %1 -vcodec xvid -s 320x240 -b 314k -bf 0 -acodec mp3 -ab 64k %1.avi

Hmm. I just tried the video link you provided with the original ffmpeg and the string you provided (as I suggested). It works fine.

To download, I copy the link to the clipboard (right click on it in browser, and copy the link) and then I run the program and when I wave the mouse over the video URL white box it fills with the link automatically (but I have to mouse over it, poss a Win2K thing?).

I download, then I switch to convert. Flawless.

Perhaps you need XVID installed, but I didn't think it was essential. I thought ffmpeg had such built in. In fact I'm sure it has (the included build, I mean).

I can select any pre-downloaded youtube .FLV file in fact, and do the conversion. No probs.

What's your operating system?

Anyone else got any ideas?

Oh, I get it. First select 'Download video from YouTube' to do the downloading as I described above.

When it's done, switch to 'Convert video'. The filename (for it is now an FLV file on your PC, not a URL) will automatically fill the box for you to convert. If you want to convert another previously downloaded .FLV file you will have to press the '...' box beside the file name box to get a file selector to choose the file.

If you just put a URL in to the conversion 'section' of the program it will fail as you describe, as it would do. A URL is not a file.

Experiment. You'll get the hang of it. First download, then convert. 1-2.

BonMong,

You're the greatest for taking the time to help. I'm getting closer - got a few vids converted and transferred and man, they look great!!! But still some weirdness. It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. But I will keep playing with it. The problem is sometimes after I click convert, the DOS-like conversion window blinks for a fraction of a second and the conversion just doesn't happen, and sometimes - following the same exact steps - it works.

But anyway, thanks for getting me going!!! The problem is probably some kind of problem with my competer. Maybe XP is not running right or something.

Next question - ok, so now how do I delete videos from the Clix2?

And finally, a Rhapsody question: tracks I've purchased in Rhapsody transfer to the Clix2 without any tag data except the song title. Rhapsody-To-Go tracks (licensed, not purchased) transfer with all the tag info. I can't edit tracks that are already on the Clix using Rhapsody - is there a way to do that?

Thanks again,

Jim

I've had a few mis-fires too, under win2K. I think it is prolly a file release issue cause by the OS.

Either leave it a few seconds after download then hit convert, or just hit convert a second time.

Delete videos through Windows Explorer. They are in the 'Videos' folder on the clix2.

I do not use Rhapsody, I use UMS(MSC) mode. Someone else will have to field MTP questions for you.

Thanks again BongMong. I realized that Rhapsody allows me to manage/delete videos.

When I step back and look at all the work that you guys have done to find a way to make video play back properly on the Clix, I have to wonder what the hell iRiver is thinking. Shouldn't the Clix just work out of the box? Does iRiver pay you guys to attempt to make their product useable?

You guys really seem to know your stuff and are generous in helping others make their Clix work, but it shouldn't have to be this way. The product should come with a downloader/converter that works well all the time, even for people who know nothing about the technology, period.

What am I missing?

The frustration is coming from the fact that Movie Converter never worked for me at all, and YouTube Downloader rarely works (although I am thankful for having it - thanks again BongMong - I did get a few vids to work). I know there are other converters out there, but geez, I've spent enough time putzing around with this thing. I just don't have the hours to spend on it.

Firstly, just want to say thankyou for such an excellent breakdown of all the available options.

Ive only had my clix 2 a few days, but have been able to convert videos (including MKV files) with both Iriver movie converter software and badak. I'll admit badak was indeed quicker at it though. Iriviter always seems to have issues installing, (mencoder related errors).

Can badak rip from DVD? Im trying to keep the no. of programs i use . install to a minimum.

I have encountered an issue where if a video file has no audio track (main track or otherwise) it will not play on clix2

After adding an audio track the video was successfully opened by the clix2 player.

Could anyone else confirm this ?

(ps, i have the latest firmware on the clix2)

Has anyone checked out iLove? Jakub Sloup .cz - iLove. It has a profile for Clix 2 and can monitor folders for videos to convert. Can only output to one folder though.
