My Clix2 4GB Screen went bad!

Any advice? I have had my Clix2 for about a year. Got it from Amazon. Love it... works great... but two weeks ago i woke up and the screen was messed up. Everything faded and where there is text or images, lines trail off in either direction from vertical end to end.

I am pretty sure i didnt drop it or sit on it... had on plane trip the night before and it worked fine.

I have read several other posts and it seems that getting it fixed or replaced by iRiver is a futile effort to a degree.

Anyone have a similar issue? Is this a defect? Common issue? Help!

My clix is 6 days out of warranty and they said no deal. estore@iriverinc.com quoted $70 to fix it. They refused to quote how long it would take to fix. I asked what may cause such a screen failure and they would not answer. I just don't want to pay 40% of the price of a new unit to get this fixed and have it go blank in another 4 months.

"Love it... works great... but two weeks ago i woke up and the screen was messed up."

Calexander: doesn't this mean that it in fact doesn't "work great"? That happened to me too, but it is not supposed to happen to a properly designed player. Rarely ever hear about this problem with other players.

I sent mine to iRiver in California (2,807 miles away) and they received it on Friday, August 8th. I got an e-mail saying that it had been shipped back on Monday, August 11th and it is scheduled to arrive on Friday, August 15th.

That was a very quick turnaround, but I have no idea whether they fixed it. They didn't say. I figure they would have told me if they couldn't, or refused to, fix it. I also have no idea whether they formatted the drive. I had about 1,575 songs and several videos and photos on it. I'll find out this Friday.

My screen messed up as well. The screen will go black, but I can still tell that it's being backlit. Then sometimes I can see different vertical lines of color, and sometimes It will be speckled with red and blue and black dots. When all this happens, there's absolutely no visible picture on the screen, just either black, or strange colors.

I've finally found out that the only way to "temporarily" fix it, is if I use up the battery completely, then charge it up, the screen will work fine again. But if I use it, and then try to charge it up before the battery is completely drained, then the screen will mess up.

Also it will mess up just at random while I'm listening to music.

Any ideas on what the problem is, or how to fix it?

-Nick

Has your screen been fixed?

Mine went black-screened a month after I purchased the Clix 2. I turned on my Clix 2 one day and nothing displays, but the control still works and I was able to guess where the music pages were. I was lucky to send it in to get it repaired since it was still under warranty then, and receive my fixed Clix 2 in the mail within the week. A note from a Reigncom technician who fixed my Clix 2 wrote that there was a loose connection between the screen and the connector inside and thus resulted the blank screen.

You might have better luck with someone who have repaired a couple Clix 2 before from this forum than sending back to Reigncom for a hefty fee, if your scenario was the same as mine. It might be just a loose connection and $70 + s&h is pricey. Good luck getting your Clix 2 to work again.

Total Clix 2 repairs:
1 - Headphone plug internals loose causing mono sound output (sent to service center and fixed).
2 - Screen lost image due to loose signal wire (sent to service center and fixed).
