Non-DRM'd AAC files?

I ripped my music from CDs using iTunes. I guess they are in AAC format, but the file extension is m4a. Even though there is no DRM on these songs, mediamonkey won't synch them to clix. And copying them in MSC mode, they appear but won't play.

Am I out of luck, and need to re-rip them?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Clix is not AAC-friendly, and iTunes isn't clix-friendly. (It's a jungle out there.) Unfortunately you need to convert the songs or re-rip them. I've read that iTunes doesn't do MP3 very well (but I haven't tried it myself), so you'd be well advised to use MM instead.

How about trying an AAC to MP3 conversion first, to see how it compares to re-ripping? It's unlikely to do the sound quality any favours but it would save a lot of disk-feeding tedium - depending on how many CDs you have.

But if you are prepared to start from scratch, and you're a fussy listener, please consider trying Ogg Vorbis. It really is rather good.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts. I am not a picky listener, so I will probably just convert them, if I can figure out how to get MM to do it. I'd rather have small file size over quality since I have the 4GB.

Always appreciate your posts Mike.
