Clix2 durability
Hi I am new here, but you can probably tell that form my post count.
I have recently been looking for a new mp3 player because My old Sansa broke down. I was for a while thinking about getting an iPod Nano, but decided against it because it lacks a radio and microphone. While I was searching I came upon many glorious reviews of the Clix. I decided to do some further research and when reading user comments on Cnet, I came upon a major issue. Many of the users say that their Clix broke very easily. Some say that it was damaged after a mere 3 foot fall and was rendered unplayable. Others still said that they accidentally cracked the screen from pressing to hard. This would be a problem, as I am somewhat clumsy, and I would surely like my mp3 player to survive at least a couple of falls.
I would like to know from you if any of these comments are true about the Clix and, if so, will the Clix2 be more durable than the previous version?

As with many other electronics devices the issue of durability depends on many factors, but two I'd pick as maybe the most relevant:
- User habits. This has a lot to do, as it is directly linked to how do people use their devices.
- The device's own tolerance. This imposes a problem, as two devices are never identical, and as such some clixes are more prone to failure at certain spots while others at other spots.
Personally thus far my clix has survived two falls: one in the cradle which got the clix out of it, but both units are still fully functional and another when I was washing my car and my german shepard pulled with its paw the earphones cable and the clix got out of my hoody's pouch landing on my garage's cement floor. This time, though the clix was in its stock polyurethane pouch, so that had to soften the impact. Usually I treat very gently my clix, however, the first thing I noticed about the clix (it is my first DAP ever) when I got it was that its plastic case is rather slippery, nothing a silicone skin cannot correct, though.

As long as you have it properly secured and your not running in the rain... it should live.

What if I were to have it simply in my pocket? I generally will listen to music while I run, so it is necessary that I have a durable player.

Being it a flash memory based player it is certainly suited for that kind of usage. Also (like LordMattman said) as long as you keep the unit secure (safe from falling/water) you should be just fine. Actually I use my Clix to workout, myself...

More than you know, check these out: 1, 2, and 3. There is also a water-proof case for the iFP series

So then, how hard a fall can the Clix survive, and how much does the silicone case help it? I also hear that the silicone case seems to tight. I am sorry for asking so many questions, I just want to have a durable player that won't quit out on me. And thanks for the responses,

Iriver released an mp3 player which you could buy a waterproof case and headphones for. It was a flash player, i think about 512mb.

I wish there was something similar for the S10 (as it would be like the ideal DAP to take "swimming")

Thanks for all of the help. I think I have decided to get the original Clix for a couple of reasons. First, I like the cradle a lot better than the one for the Clix2. It also seems to have more accessories out right now, such as an AC adapter. Plus, it is bigger so it should be more durable. The Clix2 looks really thin. I just hope that the Clix will hold out longer than my other mp3 player.
One more thing, do you guys suggest that I get the silicone case? It would be a pain to get it on and off before and after using the cradle, but it should prevent some damage if the Clix should fall.

You can get AC adapters for the Clix2, all you need is your USB cable, the rest you can MAKE or get, they sell some for ipod where you just plug the USB into the charger and the Charger to the wal and your ready to go. Other than that i prefer Clix2, the screen and USB 2.0 port are excellent reasons to get that one and not original.
