I have tried downloading iriverter a few times and about half-way through it gives me an error message and aborts.

Is there an alternative program i can use? If so, what program?
or is there any other way to solve my problem?

And which version were you trying? 17 runs off Java so that tends to give my system problems. Hence, I'm using 0.16.

don't use iriverter
use Barak or Avidemux or any others on this page.

Why not?
iriverter with the clix2 profile is easy, fast and quite good quality.

it doesn't provide option for bitrate over 368kbs let alone other options like aspect ratio, frame rate, audio bitrate, etc.
it's too basic...
EDITbviously it's fine for beginners, but if you wanna customize more parts of the conversion process then irverter isn't ideal.

Well if you edit the clix2 profile I'm pretty sure you can do most of that stuff.

I have the same problem i got the link for downloading iriverter off the "other free programs to convert video" thread. it stops half way through and says to abort.

I had similar problems with the windows installer link for iriveter (on SourceForge), but the .zip link worked. Try that one.
