Question Clock & Licenses Re-setting on Battery Drain

I have the Clix2 8GB w/firmware 1.14. My battery has drained twice now and when I re-charge, the clock is re-set to 1/1/2004 and all of my licenses to Rhapsody subscription songs are gone (I get the ""To play this track you must sync..." error.).

I've tried setting the clock and "updating licenses" but it does not work. Songs still appear on my player, but they can not play. So far the only solution that has worked is to re-format the player and start over. Anyone have any advice? Seems the player should not completely re-set when the battery drains. Anyone else have this problem? Is this an issue with my player?

Thanks!

Usually the battery should not drained beyond the point where the clock stops working. However, if you did drain the battery too much, the clock will reset as they is simply not enough power to maintain it. By the way, over-draining is a major cause of battery damage and I will advice you not to drain your battery in this fashion (or you will kiss your battery goodbye very soon).

Once the clock is reset, there is nothing you can do except format the player so the old license will be deleted. My advice to you is, charge your battery more regularly.

Thanks for the advice. I certainly wasn't intentionally draining my battery. It just happened from one use to the next. I've since taken it off sleep mode and plan to charge more frequently, so hopefully that will help.

I was just surprised there was no back-up to restore settings (like in PDAs or other players) even if the main battery was drained. Wanted to make sure it was a general issue and not a problem with my specific player that needed to be replaced/repaired.

If all Clix are like this, seems like a major design flaw to not have a battery backup to maintain at least the clock setting.

Can anyone else confirm that this happens to them when their battery drains?

You took my comment the wrong way.

As I had said before, the clock can / is designed to work at a lower voltage (lower than that needed for other function). It supposes to keep working even if the player can not long play music (due to low battery). However, if you somehow drain the battery too much, it will deplete to a point where the clock can not longer work.

For example, if you forgot to charge/change the battery in your watch and it stops working, can you say there is a major design flaw on the watch? You can't, because no watch will work without sufficient power. Same logic applies here.

I think this is a 1.14 firmware issue and not a design flaw. I had mine reset and I'm pretty sure it never drained below the point where it should have done that. IOW, I was still getting the battery low message (enough juice to run the screen should = enough to run the clock?) and had NOT let the player sit for days. I am now getting license expires all the time, have had the clock reset once or twice, and it's very frustrating.

I'm having the same issue

My battery drained and my clock reset. I have firmware 1.17 running. Is there any way to remove the Rhapsody license from the Clix2 and reinstall it or do I have to reformat my device again? This happens to me at least once a month.

I believe the Clix has a critical design flaw. When you shutdown your pc with the clix still plugged in, the Clix no longer charges, and will instead drain its battery down to zero, despite the fact the screen claims it is charging.
