Firmware 1.09

What do we know? The new Rhapsody-firmware 1.08 has just been updated to 1.09, and this time it seems to be official (according to the naming style).

So grab it here as usual, and someone please try using iriver plus 3 or MTP firmware updater this time than report back if you get it to work. Thanks in advance.

Important:
Again, firmware v1.09 is a Rhapsody compatible firmware. If you don't use Rhapsody service or don't think there is a need to update your current firmware (assuming it is 1.07), there is no essential need to update. For those who are currently enjoying v1.08, please update your firmware as soon as possible.

How to update your firmware manually can be found in the FAQ.

Well, it fixes the save UCI bug from 1.08. Don't know what else yet (espicially since I didn't play with 1.08 that much.)

I'm able to drag themes and stuff into my folders in MTP mode without having to update to WMP 11. (SWEET)

Good to hear about this new firmware, is it unusual to see two releases spaced so near each other?

Just updated my firmware to 1.0.9 and noticed a new menu item, "About the Artist"...

I assume this is somehow tied in to Rhapsody? Anyone know?

(When I selected it, it gave me a message "No Info on this Artist", or something like that).

Slightly off topic, but what exactly is the "Save UCI" option for?

What does UCI stand for?

Thanks for clarifying for this novice.

It's for saving a user chosen theme, if you select a theme you want to use on the clix2 and the turn it off, it'll go back to the default. This option saves your choice (I'm pretty sure it saves fonts aswell).
Not sure what UCI stands for.

Right now I don't have Rhapsody so I'm wondering if I should get it. So...

What are the benefits of having rhapsody?

Some people like iTune, other love MTV Urge, and some other only want to use Rhapsody... personally, I don't think there is one major factor why Rhapsody is better than other (must admit here: I don't like/use music service, I like CD better).

Rhapsody music service on wiki

Yes, this comes from Rhapsody. When you find the account information option, that does as well.

As to the benefits of Rhapsody, many people like the 'channels' option. I think this is their major selling point. (Personally I use URGE so I don't have tons of experience with them. Maybe mdscriber will weigh in on this...)

As a Rhapsody user, there's really three selling points versus competitors (Napster and Urge, mainly):

Rhapsody has an cleaner, easier to browse catalog, and can be used to browse music they don't have on the service, so you always find a song you're thinking of, even if you can't DL it. Very easy to download entire albums.

It has a lot of information about artists and albums, and some of this info will DL on display on DNA-enabled players.

Channels are probably the biggest selling point. Basically, you pick a genre and it'll auto-generate a playlist for you. The next time you sync, it'll automatically swap the tracks you've listened to for new stuff. You can also make custom channels for any artist in their database, and it'll pull songs that sound like that artist. GREAT for finding new music.

Rhapsody's biggest flaw is their smaller-than-some catalog. That's actually the reason I cancelled my Rhapsody subscription and am probably going to go with either Zune or Napster in the future (which will determine my next player purchase, as well). The Rhapsody features on the Clix2 almost tempt to try it again, though...
