Well, my wife's player fell 2 feet, and now the screen is black.

Reading, I see that there's no more repair service.

She loves the player, and we're just not in a situation where I can buy her a new one right now...

It's definitely out of warranty.

What are my options?

Opening it up and trying to check if the screen is fully connected. Not sure how you'd open it up though, theres a guide for the 2nd gen only.

Yeah, that's the problem.

Here is the guide for opening a clix1 up. You will want to pay attention to the connector between the screen and the main board.
