It appears that a new firmware (2.2) is available at the Clix support page at iRiver America. Of course, the firmware history page stops at FW 1.11. So, does anyone know what 2.2 adds/changes/improves?

That version number is a typo and refres to the updater version rather then the firmware version. The latest AFAIK is still 2.01

I came here because I seek a player with support for Russian id3 tags.
I did not see Russian on clix 1 so I git a different player, but now I think perhaps it is possible to add more languages with firmware update?
Any experts on this?
If this is the case I might get clix 2 once it is released.

Add more language by updating firmware? Sorry mate, I don't think that is possible... at least we haven't seen any language being added since the release of clix1, left along clix2.

This is a case of possible versus probable. It is completly possible to add new language support with a firmware update however I think it is very unlikely.

Is there a mechanism to change PFD into UMS? since the pfd should require me to syn my music folder into the MP3, so complex, sometimes i want only one song to transfer into the music...

PFD to UMS firmware? Not possible.

it's unlikely that iriver will ever do such a thing. Why would that make the clix 1 even more awesome for free when they can force you to buy a new clix 2 for $280 or so?

i suppose the only hope is that if someone has the electronic finesse to crack the iriver clix firmware and release a fan created firmware. anyone up to the task?
