The firmware is no more and no less the OS of the device... To put it simply, without it, it couldn't function.

Like gmureddu said its the OS of the device (what runs the player). Upgrading means that iriver can fix bugs and issues from previous versions of the firmware. They can also implement new features and optimise the player to run much more smoother! That really is the whole point of upgrading (virtually improving your player).

Should I assume that after doing this you still see the problem?

Yes i still have the problems with the pictures and album art, but I don't think I downloaded the firmware correctly, I was kind of confused as to which one to download, because I have a 2G Clix, and you told me to download the one that said U10 CLix, but I couldn't find any labled with that so I downloaded one that said Clix 2G, but it didn't do anything when i added it to my clix files, so i'm kind of confused

It seems that iriver just renamed all the clix related files name.

The 'CLIX 2G' is the correct one for you, version 2.01. Just download one of the two (both are same). Unzip the file and put the .HEX file next to all the folders. Disconnect your clix after that.

Hello everyone!
I'm new here and I'm looking for some help.

I had the same problem as Misslisg: The automatic firmware updater will not detect my 4G Clix.
I tried disconnecting all USB devices that show up as storage volumes as Ted Yo suggested but that still did not work.
I looked through the firmware updates on that website but I wasn't sure which one to download. I was confused because the highest version I saw for what I thought would be the update for the 4G Clix was V2.00US; which is the version I currently have. If I am not mistaken, I thought there was a higher version like 2.1 maybe. If someone could help me out that would be awesome.

Anyways, any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks

the version you have is the highest currently available for the 4GB clix. the 2.01 version you've heard of is the equivalent for the 2GB clix.

other than trying to figure out how to get your player properly detected, you're perfectly fine and up to date with your updates

Are you using the latest (2.4 I think) firmware updater?

Not 100% correct, check out this thread. We're up to 2.11, although it isn't official yet and is irreversible. So before updating to it please read the whole thread and make sure you understand fully what the new firmware entails.

Your firmware is the highest official release and until the latest is released (unless you really want an upgrade) it would be best to stay with what you have. So far the changes only seem minor but please refer to the above thread to help you understand more about it.
As for the player not being recognised by the updater please read post #5 and #6 (as well as the rest of the thread).

Woops, sorry for this post. I don't know why, I didn't see the second page.

I never did any of the upgrades for my clix 4 gb.

I just bought my cousin one of the clearance clix 4 gb as well and she doesn't have the upgrades either obviously.

Do you all think it's worth it for me to upgrade hers and mine - or are all the upgrades
no big deal?
