Clix 2 Silicone Case (iRiver) Review

I received my Clix 2 Silicone Case (not the MisticAudio), and thought someone might want to hear a mini review.

I chose this version of the Silicone case, instead of the one by MisticAudio, for a couple of reasons. I personally don't use an arm strap to hold my Clix, so the fact that the MisticAudio offered an arm strap as an option wasn't really a benefit to me. In fact, it slightly bothered me that there were cut-outs for the strap in the back of the case, two cut-outs, which I felt might allow more dust and debris to get to my Clix with the case on. For my personal use, the fewer cut-outs and opening the better.

The Clix 2 Silicone Case is very soft silicone with a great feel. While I love the look and feel of the Clix 2, it is so smooth, it feels like it could slip from your hand, if you aren't careful. With the Silicone case on, it has a slightly rubbery feel, and feels much more secure in your hand.

I would have prefered the Black, but being told it was not currently in stock, I went with the white case, and it looks sweet.

The case has raised nubs which cover the two volume buttons, and allow easy access to those buttons, with NO additional difficulty in usage... the volume buttons work as well as they do without the case on. Moving across the top edge of the case, there is a small, square hole for the mic. This is a VERY small opening, but I"m sure it's sufficient for the mic to pick up a users voice.

Down the right edge, you again have the raised nubs which cover the power button and multi-function button, and again, these work as well as they did on a nake Clix 2. Below these two nubs is a cut-out for the USB connection, which is cut out very precisely... you can see the USB connector, and a fraction of an inch clearance surrounding the USB outlet. The cutout could not be any smaller, or be any more accurate!

Bottom edge does have a cut-out for the Hold switch. Guess there wasn't any way to provide accsss for this switch without a cut-out, and the cut-out DOES make using the switch slightly harder then when accessing it without the case. You really have to almost try to push the switch with your fingernail (and I always forget which way it's supposed to go!)

Moving over to the left edge, at the top is a cut out hole for your headset to be inserted, and a square cutout for reset hole.

The case comes with a cord (think thick, long shoe string), which you can slip through two holes on the back, and use to hang your Clix 2 from your neck. Haven't opened up the bag with the cord yet... not sure if I'll use it or not. The back of the case, towards the top, has two small holes which you would thread the cord through, and would allow you to hang the Clix.

Overall, I like the case a lot. One complaint, the case seems slightly tighter on the right side then on the other edges. The net effect of this is, if you press the bottom edge of your Clix towards the middle or on the right side, it will register as a "Right" click. Tap the top edge close to the right side, and again, it will register as a "Right" click. I find I have to tap the bottom left edge to transmit a "Bottom" or down click, or tap the top left edge to register a "Top" or up click.

Right and Left edge clicks work fine.

Not sure if the case will loosen up, and this problem will become minimized or not.

Once you remember to tap on the left side of the Top or Bottom, clicks work fine, but again, if I tap too close to the right side on the top or bottom, the Clix reads it as a Right click.

Overall, I really like the case! If feels more secure in my hand, and I am less concerned about sticking my Clix in my pants pocket, where I usually keep it, while the case is on.

What I really like about the case, along with it's sleek looks, is that they managed to make a case which adds protection but adds almost NOTHING to the weight and size of my Clix!

The top of the case where the two holes are (in the back) actually tappers out just a tad, to provide room for the neck strap. You really have to look closely to even notice that the top of the case is tapered out for the cord. Again, excellent design and forethought!

Not sure how this case compared to the MisticAudio, and I certainly did not intend to diminish that case in any way, but for my personal needs, this case fit with what I was looking for better.

Hope this might help someone!

Thanks

Thanks for the review i might buy now. One question, when you pullit out of your pocket does it stick to the sides and pull the pocket out? That happens with my wallets a lot and it annoys me out of my mind for some reason.
Thanks again.

Well, I only received it today, and I happen to be wearing jeans, but no, it comes out of my pocket very easily.

The silicone is NOT sticky, and doesn't seem as if it will be a lint magnet whatsoever.

Question Case no longer sold?

I cannot find the silicone case on any website--only the MisticRiver version, which I do not want because of the extra openings in the case. The iRiver Store doesn't seem to be selling it. Has anyone found a site where it is sold?

I think the iRiver Korean site has it... I could say for certain if I read Korean.

They do have the cases: the next simplicity_ iriver but I can't order it because I can't read Korean and they probably don't ship to the U.S. anyway. Has anyone seen these skins for sale from a U.S. carrier? Thanks.

Since it's looking like the official iRiver silicone cases will not be sold from iRiver America anytime soon, I was wondering if anyone knows if this case is any good (I know it's currently sold out ) http://store.nexternal.com/shared/St...2&Galler yID==.
