My Clix 2/U20 Disassembly Guide
My Clix 2/U20 Disassembly Guide
******** Be Warned, This may very well VOID any warranty you have on your Clix ********
!follow these steps at your own risk; I hold no responsibility for the accurateness of this article!
Requirements- 1 x iRiver Clix 2 or U20!
- 1 x Small Flat blade Instrument Screwdriver (max 3mm shaft)
- 1 x Small Phillips (crosshead) Instrument Screwdriver
- Finger nails
- A clean work surface (optional)
Step 1.
Insert your Small Instrument Screwdriver into the headphone socket, may sound bizarre but all will become clear! (see here).
Step 2.
Apply light pressure to the screwdriver, I pressed the clix down onto the screwdriver, it will travel about 4-5mm then hit a definite stop. Inside this push a spring loaded release mechanism.
Step 3.
Now this is the most difficult bit, with the pressure still applied on the screwdriver hook your middle finger nails in between the screen(top) and base(bottom) at the two corners on the side with the hold switch on and your right hand thumb nail in between the screen(top) and base(bottom) in the middle of the side with the volume control buttons on.
Step 4.
Now apply even (quite heavy) downward pressure with you middle fingers, and outward (light) force with your right hand thumb. The screen should slide down and out (see here).
Step 5.
You should now have released all 6 clips that hold the screen onto the base, all that is hold the two parts together now in the interconnecting ribbon cable (see here).
This has a push fit connector and sticky tape holding it down that can be gently levered up to separate the two parts.
Step 6.
Remove the 8 small silver screws from the base (one is hidden under a small piece of protective foam by the microphone), then gently lever off the headphone socket retaining bracket and USB port retaining bracket (see here).
Step 7.
Then carefully lever out the main circuit board from the headphone socket end (see here).
And you done, disassembled!
