When you update firmware you're gonna want to format device to make sure you have less problems down the road. So yea back everything up, pretty easy make new folders in My Computer or w/e then just drag the files into the folders, then just put everything back into later. Also you have to switch to UMS/MSC for drag and drop, which is fine becuase this automatically formats your device, hence losing a step...kind of annoying.
